Mediator – how to quit

Published by skambalu at 10:54 am under Mediator, OpenMind

This is in response to Jo’s comment earlier on. Sorry it’s taken so long, Jo!

How to quit …

It is much easier if you are using OpenMind to set up the page – each branch represents one page, so before you export your mindmap to Mediator, add a branch that says quit – it will make it much easier later on. If you don’t have Open Mind, then I presume you need to add a Quit page and a quit button on every page that leads to the Quit page.

On the quit page … Have a question that also explains what decision the user needs to make. So on my Mediator package, I ask: Do you really want to quit? Type Y or N.

Then I have a “input object”. Next to that is a submit button. The submit button has an event, and that’s where it gets a bit complicated! Choose the following standard events:
Move into -> set cursor (timer)
Move out -> Set cursor(arrow)
Mouse click -> If

Then we go to programming to choose the “If” …

IF (Condition) – type the following in the box:
UPPER(input.text)=”Y”
THEN
Timeline
ELSE
Go to page -> Homepage

In the Timeline:
Show (hidden text such as “Goodbye! Come again soon!”)
3 seconds later: Exit.

Right. I hope that helps!

    This has nothing to do with mediator, but can you explain DivShare to me? Judy told me it’s on edublogs and i’ve added it as a plugin but have no idea how it then works! Also, would you recommend that or flickr if i want students to upload pics onto their blogs?

    Sorry. Am prize muppet. Need to sleep more – just had deja vu about that post and sure enough found i’d already asked you that question – and wouldn’t you know you’d already answered it! Ignore comment above and thank you for your other reply which i had so rudely ignored! Will play around with that. Presumably it only links you to photo files if that’s what you’ve uploaded, rather than embedding them in your blog like flickr does? (that’s something i quite like about flickr)

    My blogs are at http://thegothic.edublogs.org and http://themonologue.edublogs.org. Links to student blogs are on there too. The gothic one will be the most interesting over time as the summer project i’ll be setting will be more creative – but let me know what you think. Will try to find time to blog about it myself soon!

    I would use Flickr to upload images. I would use DivShare for videos, word documents, presentations and sound files. I’m just going to see if I can remember how it works!

    Aha! I’ve just moderated your last comment, Tessa (not sure why I had to do that …) so I’m glad you’ve got it working!

    I’ve just looked at these blogs! They are excellent! Some great work on the students’ blogs too! I feel jealous already! So far, it’s mostly been me updating the blogs with students’ work: Year 7 Blog and Year 8 Blog.

    Whats up MrsK? are you postinf? thanks for facebook comments. I still deciding my rationale for using Facebook inaddition to blogs.

    I like the idea of putting students work up there (but are you having to type it all up yourself?) – it’s a nice idea to have it as a ‘best work’ forum. I like the task on the year 8 one too, where they’ve responded to it and you’ve commented. I’m finding it quite nice to ‘mark’ work on the blogs – you feel they’ll be a bit more excited when they see your comment than usual! And it also makes you be really positive, as you’re aware what you say is very public. The problem is if you need to say something negative (for example a girl plagiarised something on her blog yesterday) – but i guess then they always have the power to read your comment but not moderate it.

    Yes, I did type the work up myself, but in an ideal world they would do that … I would hope that, especially with the younger pupils, once they had seen other pupils’ work up on the blog, they might be more include to post their own work as comments, and gradually I could allow them to post, or something like that. I would love to do more marking on the blog, or even by email – when I did coursework at my last school I found it much easier and quicker to respond with helpful comments when the work was emailed to me.
