Main concerns …

Published by skambalu at 12:28 am under MacBook, podcasting, spresent

So my main concerns are:

1) I’m running out of space on my Mac
2) I’m still waiting to get spresent embedded properly in my blog
3) My podbean.com account is almost full
4) Some of my individual files are too big to save onto a disk and I can’t really afford to buy an external harddrive at the moment (hadn’t planned on needing to do that when I started the course!)
5) I still can’t access the internet at home
6) This means I can’t upload some of my documents to the internet since the laptop I use for the internet is a bit older and won’t accept all the files
7) Still not resolved the headphones and microphones issue at school
8) The microphone on my headphones doesn’t work … must remember to mail Judy about that!

9) It’s late, and I’ve been exhausted recently, and I can’t believe I’m still up. Goodnight!

10) The number 8 has turned into a smiley …

Hi Su (do you add the e?)
any how thanks for your comments on ma blog.
Read your latest blog. Have you considered the DivShare plugging on edublogs. if you sign on you get (according to them unlimited space to put files) .
You might want want to consider using DivShare as ayour file sharing site.

I am quite carefully in how I manage space on my laptops. I use i use the memory stick for back up then progressively back up to an old lap top hard drive from an old laptop then back up into the haringey system. naturally all the files are of the type that can be public!

A colleague of mine does an annual clean out of his hard drive then put back those files he uses currently

Following on from our epic battle on the mindball. I did some internet research on Alpha , beta , theta waves. I came across an article on Psycho Navigation ( travelling with in your inner space) apparently when we were battling we were going into our inner space and furthermore it is a skill that people aspire to. I looking more into it. Part of thre Jedi training!

Sue I think Lloyds idea of using the DivShare Plugin would be a good idea. Give it a try and let me know what you think….

Sue answers to some of the problems identified.

    1) I’m running out of space on my Mac.
We need to look at your space here. Digital Media files can be very large. 2 things can be done. Buy some DVD’s DVD-r and backup some of your resources onto this so that you free up space on the Mac. eg put all the audio files including the garageband files onto DVD together with the MP3’s and/or M4a’s. Don’t forget to lable the DVD’s and store them carefully. For your information I am buying a passport drive 120G, http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000IAZ566/ref=nosim/accessleedsco352-21

    2) I’m still waiting to get spresent embedded properly in my blog
Please read my latest blog, Spresent seem to have solved this and have included a new publish option which should be available sometime this week.

    3) My podbean.com account is almost full. Using DivShare should help.

    4) Some of my individual files are too big to save onto a disk and I can’t really afford to buy an external harddrive at the moment (hadn’t planned on needing to do that when I started the course!) Are the files too big for a DVD see above.

    5) I still can’t access the internet at home. The problem is that the Mac doesn’t have a modem so please phone the CLC and I will get Chris J to speak to you and see if we can solve this problem.

    6) This means I can’t upload some of my documents to the internet since the laptop I use for the internet is a bit older and won’t accept all the files. See above

    7) Still not resolved the headphones and microphones issue at school. Sue what is the problem at school….. how can we help?

    8) The microphone on my headphones doesn’t work … must remember to mail Judy about that!
Please phone me about this! I am asking for some spares from Toucan.

    Hope this helps

Right … an update on the state of affairs!

Lloyd – I’ve now got the DiviShare thing set up, so now I just need to upload some things there! And as for spelling my name … emmm … it’s always Susan, Ruth and Judy are the only people who call me Sue, as well as now the other people on the Transformation Teachers Programme!

Judy – Thanks for all those tips.

1, 4) I’ve got the DVD-rs, and have copied (then deleted) a number of files. I now have about 14GB free on the Mac side instead of 4GB. Still doesn’t seem a lot though!
    2) Spresent problem is, I think, now solved.
    3) Am going to use DivShare to help solve the podbean problem. Have you downloaded Ruth’s talk and questiontime so I can remove it? (And has anyone picked up the CDs from school yet?)
5, 6) I have ordered Sky Broadband which hopefully will arrive within the next week and should come with a wireless box.
    7) The school does not have sets of headphones/microphones because they cost money, so if we want them we have to buy them as a department. However, Janet, the BT, has told me that it might be possible to buy cheap headphones, at about £1 each, which could be sold to pupils, or at least borrowed with £1 deposit. Do you know where I could get any? But that still leaves us needing microphones. However, I might be able to get away with just using mine and perhaps Claire’s.
    8) Looking forward to getting my new headphones! Thanks.
