Drawing on DigiMemo …

Published by skambalu at 10:58 am under DigiMemo, T&L

Samson, my husband, loves my new DigiMemo … he thinks it’s the best piece of equipment I’ve been given on this programme. First of all I showed him the clipboard and pen … he was trying to work out what was special about it. So I plugged it in … the first results were great, I had written out three pages of planning notes for my Year 8 lesson, and they showed up really clearly. Mostly transferred correctly too (although I’m still working on the best way of doing that … text only, or text and graphics? Not sure yet, I think it depends on the circumstances). But the real thrill was when I started writing on the paper while the DigiMemo was plugged in, and the writing goes straight to the screen. I then started drawing a picture … and he was hooked! We sketched for a bit, saving the results (some of which I’ll try and upload at some point) – and then I changed the background to a picture of a philosopher. I took a blank piece of paper, and, watching the screen, began to draw round the outline. Samson pointed out the darker wrinkles, saying things like “Make sure you add those” – I was more aware of light and dark. Then, when I looked at my paper … I had a not bad sketch of AJ Ayers! I then took away the background … and had a sketch on the computer of Ayers! I can see great uses in Art for this. So can Samson … I think I’ll need to keep it under lock and key!

Sue as usual your enthusiasm blows me away. In fact I think you should be teaching at the CLC! Seriously I think you should look at developing a range of creative resources for RE and seeing if you could get it published or possibly see if Teachers TV are interested in doing something with your experiences. As usual I am looking forward to seeing all the evidence.

Wow – that sounds amazing! I know I said before i was interested in trying the digimemo – and more so now I understand more how they work and how they could be used. It would be good to see some of what you’ve done at the next session. Judy – any chance that i can use a set for a couple of weeks or is there only one set?

By the way, you said you’d made worksheets in ComicLife – it would be great to see those on Flickr when you get a chance. I hadn’t thought of using the programme to make more interesting worksheets. That got me thinking about using it to do simplified graphic novel style versions of stories for EAL and SEN students – though you’d have to find pictures from somewhere for those…

Tessa this is now getting complicated. Your comments to Sue require a suggestion and if I don’t make a link on your blog you might never see it. Dilema….. here goes!
Firstly we only have a set of 1 A4 digimemos and 11 A5 digigmemos and you haven’t used one yet so you need to have some experience. I really ned the answers to these questions…
What ideas have you for using them over the two weeks?
Who would you use them with?
    How many groups/lessons?
What outcomes would you like to achieve?
Is it for a main lesson or an extra curricula activity?

Could it be that some of your more artisit studenets use them to draw pictures of the characters and situations within the texts that you are talking about for your ComicLife Worksheets….

Why not try and outline a short term project and then we can find out Sue and Martins plans and look into how we can schedule the kite for all three or you to use.

Looking forward to seeing the project outlines from all three of you…… C U Mon/Tuesday?
